Acorn Run 2008

This is a timed event over a four mile (approximate) course with obstacles set up along the way to make the course challenging and fun!  The ride at a walk, with out obstacles takes about 1 1/2 hours.

Awards will be awarded to the fastest three finishers in each division:  There will be an award for the best overall time of the day.  Awards will also be presented to everyone who finishes the course with no penalties regardless of finish time.

A two minute penalty will be added for every refused obstacle.  All obstacles must be attempted by each rider, any unattempted obstacle will be an additional two minute penalty.  We try to have two identical obstacles at each point, so there should not be a hold up.

When overcoming a rider on the trail, please let them know verbally you will be passing them.  The rider in front has the right of way.  Riders behind must go off the trail to pass if there is not enough room.

There is no porta potty this year!!  PLEASE COME PREPARED!  We do have lots of woods though!  No dogs allowed on the grounds.  No liquor of any kind is allowed on the grounds.  A liability waver must be signed for each rider.  All riders under the age of 18 will sign for themselves and have all attending parents or guardians sign for them also.

Riders will leave every five minutes.  Any breed horse, any type of tack is welcome.  Riders may ride bareback but mounting and dismounting may be part of the course and there may be several steep ravines to go down and back up.  Youth who are riding are recommended to be intermediate riders who are capable of following directions and are willing to be on rough trails alone.  This is not a ride for an unaccompanied beginner youth!

Ribbons will not be ordered until after the event.  This way I can ensure that ALL riders will recieve an award.  This way you are welcome to leave early if you like (several people do).  I will call you with your placing after scores are tallied.

We will not be having dinner this year and I have lowered the entry fee because of it.

All workers at the Acorn Run are volunteers and not paid employees.

Obstacle lists can also be picked up at the entry table the morning of the race.  We encourage every rider to pick up one and familiarize themselves with the course.  Please bring lawn chairs if you would like to sit closer as the awards are being presented and dinner is served.

Directions to the Acorn Run:

From St. Louis or Springfield, Hwy 44 to exit 169, J Hwy.  South on J for 2 ½ miles to CR 7660, (this will be the first county road on your right).  3/4 mile down 7660 to the entry gate.  We will place signs from 44 to the gate.

Oct. 11, 2008 Acorn Run Changes - Friday, June 20, 2008
Hello Everyone!  I have decided to eliminate dinner at the Acorn Run.  A couple reasons but it boiled down to a lot of the riders want to leave after their ride and not stay around to eat.  In addition to that, I have changed the way we will hand out awards.  Awards will be ordered after the event to make sure everyone riding will recieve something.  Since we will be mailing the awards out, there is no reason for people to stay until the end.  YOU ARE WELCOME to stay as long as you like, but since most people leave early, I thought this best.  ALSO, I was able to lower the entry fee if there is no dinner served.  Thanks for your support and hope to see you in the fall!
I Am Loosing My Mind! - Friday, June 20, 2008
I totally forgot to post the Spring 2008 results!!  Sorry!  I will TRY to remember the placings to the best of my ability!  Arva Howell of Newburg won the 12 and under division on Fuzzy Wuzzy.  Leslie Turner of Rolla won the 13-19 Division on Poncho.  This was Leslie's first time to an Acorn Run and not only did she win the largest division, she was also the Jr. Division Champion with the fastest time of the day!!!  Heather Brunk of Cuba, who has never missed an Acorn Run, placed first in the 20-40 Division, sorry Heather, I have Denny's name down and I know it wasn't Denny you rode. Heather was also our Sr. Division Champion with the second fastest time of the day.  KJ Koppelmann from Cuba placed first in the 41 and over division on Ace.  Congratulations to everyone who came.  We did something new this year.  Ribbons were not handed out at the event because of a delay in making them.  Because of this I was able to order more ribbons so every rider was able to get one no matter what place.  I hope you all had fun, we'll see you on Oct. 11!
May 20, 2007 - Sunday, September 09, 2007
Congratulations to everyone who came and finished the Acorn Run!
On May 12th we had another Acorn Run Competitive Trail Ride.  Congratulations to our division winners:  Division 1, Arva Howell and Ginger with a time of 41:41.  Division 2, Carolyn Gerdes and T2 with a time of 34:21.  Division 3, Heather Brunk and Sunny with a time of 56:45.  Division 4, Coco Taylor and Crickett with a time of 41:13 and Division 5, Diana Gerdes and Midnight, with a time of 1:47:55.  Diana's time this year was so slow because she rode with a student.  Last year she was under an hour.  Thanks to everyone who came out and had fun!  I heard this was a pretty challenging course.  Carolyn was again our Grand Champion!  Look out Carlolyn, Arva has you in her sights!
